The Baltimore Orioles are the hottest team in baseball.
Did you think reading that line was remotely possible before the start of the season?
This is a franchise that lost 110 games in 2021.
Now, as of Wednesday afternoon, they are 44-44: playing .500 ball seemed impossible a few months ago, but it’s happening: the Orioles are…good?
That can’t be right!
Well, they are, at the very least, competitive, and even that is considered a huge upgrade over their 2021 version.
They are working on a nine-game winning streak after yet another victory on Tuesday night.
They are about to make some history if they can earn another W on Wednesday night.
“The Orioles are looking to win 10 straight games in a season for the first time since September 1999. The only team with a longer active drought without a double-digit win streak in a season is the Marlins, who have never had one,” ESPN Stats & Info tweeted.

There you have it: if they manage to take home the win tonight against the Chicago Cubs, they will have done something unseen for the franchise since 1999.
Mike Mussina was on those O’s, just to give you an idea of how far back we have to go.
Of course, the O’s have had several competitive teams between then and now, but after so many frustrating seasons, it’s refreshing to see them competing.
They have some talent on the MLB roster, such as Cedric Mullins, Ryan Mountcastle, Austin Hays, Anthony Santander, Trey Mancini, Ramon Urias, and Adley Rutschman.
Additionally, pitchers like Tyler Wells, Jordan Lyles, Dean Kremer, Jorge Lopez, Dillon Tate, and others have been surprisingly competitive.
There is help on the way, too, in Gunnar Henderson, Grayson Rodriguez, and DL Hall.
If the Orioles go for it, they have the ammo to really compete for a Wild Card spot this year.
