James Thorne said he suffered serious injuries after he struck a cable gate installed at Kelley Point Park in North Portland on May 1, 2018.
The city of Portland and the Metro regional government will pay a combined $300,000 to a cyclist who said he tumbled head first over his handlebars after striking an unmarked cable gate installed along a blind curve on a shuttered bike path in 2018.
The Rivergate trail loop in Kelley Point Park was marked as open on Metro’s website when James Thorne, an engineer and “experienced and avid cyclist,” planned his trip on May 1, 2018, according to court documents.
