The Philadelphia Phillies have managed to hold on to a playoff spot during Bryce Harper‘s absence: at 69-55, they are in possession of the second Wild Card in the National League.
However, if they want to entertain the possibility of making a deep playoffs run, they need the reigning 2021 NL MVP on their active roster.
Fortunately for them, he is about ready to make his long-awaited return on Friday.
He is fully recovered from the fractured thumb he suffered a few weeks ago after a hit by pitch, and showed it in his recent minor league rehab stint.
He went 5-for-8 with two home runs, two doubles, six RBI, and three runs scored in two minor league rehab games for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
He may need a few games to shake off the rust at the MLB level, but expect the same productive Harper in the middle of the Phillies lineup.
Speaking of his rehab stint, he finished it in style, with a walk-off double to give the Iron Pigs the victory on Wednesday night.

His teammates were extremely excited, and he was seen smiling and giving away high-fives after the play.
It was surely a moment that most of the Iron Pigs players won’t forget for a long time.
Now, after completing his productive rehab, Harper is ready to return and help Philadelphia secure that spot on the postseason.
Harper is hitting .318 with 15 home runs and remains one of the game’s premier on-base artists.
The lineup, with him, has the potential to be a nightmare for opposing hurlers in the league.
